About Occupy Wall Street

On September 17th, 2011 Occupy Wall Street began. The movement quickly spread to over 1,500 cities with more than three million participants world-wide. Originally the movement was based on the idea of ending the corporate manipulation of our Government but has evolved into making a stand simply for the right to protest. Over 5,600 citizens have been arrested for forms of civil disobedience ranging from staying in a public park after hours, standing still while holding signs, to writing on the sidewalk with chalk.

About Occupy Orlando

Occupy Orlando began with our first march on October 15th, 2011. Fifteen hundred people marched that day and many stayed at Senator Beth Johnson Park (59 S. Ivanhoe Blvd.) afterward. We were told by police that the park closed at 11pm, but we were allowed to sleep on the grass next to the sidewalk and keep our supplies in the park. After occupying the park and sidewalk for two months, the city began to a zero-tolerance policy by taking any belongings left in the park or along the sidewalk and arresting anybody without warning for sleeping anywhere outside of a vehicle. We are now at City Commons, an area in front of City Hall during the day.
